Montreal-born bass Gregory Atkinson is established as a versatile singer/actor with a broad range of experience in opera, concert, and musical theatre. He has garnered critical acclaim for roles with most opera companies across Canada and in the Canadian and International touring productions of The Phantom of the Opera.

In past seasons he has been heard in the roles of Seneca in L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Nilikantha in Lakmé, Arkel in Peléas et Mélisande, Palémon in Thaïs, and Dr. Grenvil in La Traviata for l'Opéra de Montréal. He has performed the Mayor in Jenufa and Dr. Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro for Vancouver Opera, Monterone in Rigoletto and Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia for L'Opéra de Québec, Elder Mclean in Susannah and the title role of Don Pasquale for Opera Ontario, Tom in Un Ballo in Maschera and the Bonze in Madama Butterfly for Opera Lyra.

This past season he was heard in the roles of Dr. Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro for Manitoba Opera, Dr. Grenvil in La Traviata for L'Opéra de Montréal, Montano in Otello for the co-production with Opera Lyra and Manitoba Opera, and the title role of Don Pasquale in concert with the Toronto Philharmonia Orchestra. An all-Russian concert with the Winnipeg Philharmonic choir featured Mr. Atkinson in the Coronation scene of Boris Godunov and The Bells by Rachmaninov.

In future engagements, Mr. Atkinson will be reprising the role of Dr. Grenvil in La Traviata with Opera Lyra and Manitoba Opera, Dr. Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro for Opera Lyra Ottawa and Montano in Otello for Opéra de Québec.
