With a career that encompasses both opera and oratorio, bass-baritone Sean Watson has sung throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East Recently Mr. Watson performed John Estacio's The Houses Stand Not Far Apart for Chorus Niagara and recorded Handel's Israel in Egypt with the Aradia Ensemble for the Naxos label. Last season, Mr. Watson made his début with Early Music Vancouver singing a programme of Bach Christmas contatas. Mr. Watson's oratorio performances include a European tour of the Czech Republic and Germany with the Ottawa Choral Society of Mozart's Requiem and Schubert's Mass in G. He has also performed with the Kingston Symphony, the Kitchener-Waterloo Philharmonic Choir and the Amadeus Choir. In the US he has appeared at the Carmel Bach Festival in California and he sang Mendelssohn's Elijah with the Masterworks Chorale in Washington, DC. A multi-faceted performer, Mr. Watson has a parallel career on the opera stage. In October of 2003 he made his début with Opera Hamilton as Dr. Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and later returned to sing Masetto in Don Giovanni. Mr. Watson appeared as Baron Duphol in Opera Lyra's most recent production of La Traviata and as Dr. Bartolo in their Silver Cast production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia. In the spring 2004 he made his Opera in Concert début as Argante in Handel's Rinaldo which was recorded and released on Naxos. Mr. Watson has since performed many roles with Opera in Concert including Lord Cecil in Donizetti's Maria Stuarda and Lord Rochefort in Anna Bolena as well as Gualtiero in Vivaldi's La Griselda and Juanillo in Penella's El Gato Montes. He has also appeared with Toronto Operetta Theatre as Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow, Prince Ypsheim in Wiener Blut and most recently in the title role of The Mikado. |
